POSITION: Middle School Librarian (Full-time)
LOCATION: Shelton School, Dallas, Texas
DESCRIPTION: Sole full-time librarian for Shelton's approximately 265 middle school students, (7:30 to 3:30) Monday-Friday for a 10-month school year. Shelton is a co-educational day school where all the students have learning differences. We are the world model in the education of individuals who learn differently through education, evaluation,therapy, and research. Our students score average or above-average in intelligence testing, yet are challenged with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other learning differences that we are equipped to address with success. As a librarian your work is incredibly rewarding. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is eager to pursue Web 2.0 learning opportunities. We are a laptop school and want to hear your ideas about collaborative work to succeed in today's world. Besides this exciting challenge, duties involve all aspects of library service and require an independent self-starter. Includes reference, NoodleTools bibliographic instruction, collection development, technical services, circulation, and any other great ideas that come up.
ENVIRONMENT: Will share library space with Upper School Librarian/Library Coordinator on the third floor. Shelton has an additional Library on the first floor with a Librarian for Early Childhood to 2nd Grade students and another Librarian for 3rd to 5th Grade students. The entire student body is just over 850 students, with a staff of over 250. This is a community of professional educators who are passionate about their work.
REQUIRED: Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing. Ability to balance responsibilities. Experience with automated library systems and Web-based technology.
STARTING DATE: August, 2009. Contract for the 2009/10 school year.
